My better-for-you brownies are made with just half a cup of sugar, a banana for natural sweetness, cocoa powder for a yummy chocolaty flavor, and nutrient-dense hummus as a replacement for butter. If your kids are like mine, they will love, love, love this recipe!
Ingredients
  • ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 3 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 ripe banana, peeled and mashed (about ½ cup)
  • ½ cup Sabra Classic Hummus
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Powdered sugar, optional
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray 24 mini muffin cups with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
  2. Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, banana, hummus, and vanilla until well blended. Pour the liquid ingredients over the dry ingredients and stir until just moistened. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  4. Spoon the batter evenly into the prepared muffin cups. Bake 12 to 14 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Transfer the pan to a wire rack and cool for 5 minutes. Remove the brownie bites and cool an additional 5 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle with powdered sugar as desired. (Cool completely before sprinkling.)
Notes
You can leave out the flour for a gluten-free version. They will be denser and have a more fudgy texture.
